Latest MORS Standings Put Me In 1st

I just received and posted the latest M.O.R.S. standings where yours truly garnishes the top spot. I am honored at this age to be on top of anything!

Racing Page Updated With Latest Results

You must check this out. Yesterday I had a huge result and I have updated my racing page with the latest. Click on the links to see results. Yesterdays race was worth huge USA Cycling points and really improved my points in the MORS Series. I won the Discovery MTB Race yesterday and is my best result as a 40 plus (old bastard). This bumped me up to 182nd in the nation for all experts and 9th for my age. In Montana I still am able to hold on to the #1 ranking. When the MORS standings are posted I'll update this page so keep checking back. Also be on the lookout for my photos and blog.

Series Standings Posted

I just posted My Series Standings and thier links to the results. Just go to my racing page and click on the "My Series Standings" link. This year I have decided to concentrate on the Knobby Tires Series just because it is real mountain bike racing.  The secondary emphasis is on the MORS series here in Montana but only because it is home ground. Then there is the Wild Rockies Series but who can afford those races.  Next year!  Next Year!

5th Annual Coyote Classic Results Are In

I cant help but to brag (being ranked #1 in MT) and be self centered! The results for the AMBC 5th Annual Coyote Classic (1126-1500 Rank Points) are now in at USA Cyclings Web Site [click here ] and I have posted them on my racing page. Pay special notice to the times and where I would of placed as a pro/semi-pro. Exciting stuff. http://usacycling.org/results/index.php?permit=2007-1245

Race in Billings Sucked!

I just posted my impressive DNF on my calendar [link]. I have just sent a letter to USA Cycling's Shawn Farrell:

Hello Shawn,

USA Cycling has done a great job in that I can license myself and conduct a racing season so effortlessly via your website (looking up results, managing my licenses, etc). Great work!

I just want to express a concern regarding the (mountain bike) officiating in Montana. I was at a Montana Off Road Series mountain bike race last weekend and some things happened that has me questioning why I want to continue to race in Montana. And it is not just about me, other new comers to the sport are seeing the bad side of organized racing. I am a advocate of bicycle racing and last weekend has me worried.

I am aware of the rule that it is my responsibility to know the course but I feel I was not given the chance to live up to that responsibility. The day before the race I was informed that I could not pre ride and preview this new course.

I was in a Pro/expert group that got lost during the race. When we reached the officials at the start/finish area they just waived us on. We inquired on what to do! So we finished the race. I was excited that I got 2nd place and went off to talk with the winner. At no time were we told to do an extra lap.

Later we learned that we were DNF. Our argument was that they should of informed us about their decision while we were racing. Since the entire group did the same thing (except one who was far enough off the back to get re-directed) we could of easily continued and still maintained our position. I would of been happy to get third and Clint M. would of caught and won eventually.

I had family at the start/finish line and they told me that the officials were alerted by a motor bike patrol that we had cut the course and that the patrol would "put a log" in a certain place so everyone else would not take the same corner. The course was only marked with surveyors flags and frankly I did not see any of them.

So instead of making a decision and alerting myself and Clint M (the national semi-pro champ) that we needed to do another lap, we were DNF'ed. Here is the twist, they knew they messed up so they awarded us with 4th and 5th (something like that). I figure that I did not finished (according to the rules I should of went back to where I left the course and continued) so I volunteered to be DNF'ed and rejected the 5th placing. Clint also did the same but they did not DNF him for some reason.

We were both very mad and it is not good for the new racers in Billings to see this! The mountain bike officiating in Montana is not qualified in some cases and this is not the first incident.

I have decided to travel the extra distance and race in Idaho until the Montana races are fair and organized. Sorry for the rant but I needed to get this off my chest. It has been a week and there is still something about what happened in Billings Montana that irritates me. maybe this will help.

1st Place Master B ... That's 2!

I just updated the Race Page with a link to the latest results where I claimed my second Masters B race [results][blog]. Also posted to the Montana Racing List Serve is the latest comments from the race director:
Montana Velo would like to extend a thank you to everyone who came out to race his/her bike Sunday in the Helena valley. With a record 122 racers, plenty of good weather and a crackpot crew of volunteers, everything went smoothly. Montana Velo would also like to recognize Placer Motors-Subaru of Helena for their consistent support of bike racing in the Helena area.

We had only one serious crash and I have been informed that the particular rider is ok and doing fine.

Also, congratulations to all the first-time women riders who partook in the women's clinic and their first race and to the 18 junior riders (14 Men; 4 Women who raced with the Women 4's)! It was great to see that level of interest. I'm sorry for the mix-up about cat 4 women's awards presentation. At the time, I didn't realize that some of you were in attendance at our awards ceremony, rather than at the women's 4 post-race debriefing. I sincerely apologize and if you haven't already received your prize money, please let me know.
