BHL Accuses Atlanta Thrashers of Fraud and Inter-League Message Tampering

BHL League Court(BHL case 03 docket 01)

E-mails leading up to the accusation!

Message from Chris Dorion(Date: Mon, 01 Nov 1999 12:29:32 EST):

I'd like sign to Cary Chow to Atlanta.

Message from Comish(Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 21:18:35 -0500):

I can not find Cary Chow, please check your spelling and the free agent
page. Please re-submitt.

Message from Chris Dorion(Date: Wed, 03 Nov 1999 01:02:08 EST):

I think I spelled it correctly, Cary Chao. Please re-read the reply
section. Please don't sign Cary Chao if I've violated the 24-hour free
agent signing rules, but I don't think I violated anything if I did spell
the name correctly in my previous messages, therefor you should take it from
that point in time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

> > I'd like sign Cary Chao to Atlanta.*it must be noted here that Atlanta had inserted Cary Chao because the Commissioner had cut the name "Cary Chow" from here to paste it in his reply. the message should of read "I,d like sign to Atlanta".

Message from Comish(Date: Wed, 3 Nov 1999 11:06:05 -0500):

You have manipulated the original. This is the message you sent to me:

I'd like sign to Cary Chow to Atlanta.

On: 1 Nov 1999 17:29:56

The messages are read by my program. It recognizes the words "Sign" , "Cary
Chow" , and "Atlanta". If the player name string is unknown then it will
return "Player unknown message" . If it would of read in Cary Chao then it
would of found him! There is no reason to manipulate your "example" of your
message to me to prove that you should be able to sign a player today in
addition to the one that you have already picked up today. What will it hurt
to just re-submitt the players name? Are you in that much of a hury to sign
players. I hope this is not how you will do business in the future.

This request is rejected!

Message from Chris Dorion(Wed, 03 Nov 1999 13:31:37 EST):

I'd just like to tell you that I didn't modify the message with Cary Chao.
Oh well, I guess it was a glitch, no harm done.

PROSECUTER

As you can see, the defendant received a message that was sent back to him and inserted a diffrent name than was originally there; and then in return sent the comish an e-mail stating that the comish had made a mistake and concluded that he should get the player in question. This action is very small in nature but the morality issue is large. This organization tampered with the meaasage and in doing so committed fraud. In addittion the defendant has refused to take responsibility for the action. this must be addressed by you the BHL GMing. Thank-you!

DEFENSE

As you can see there is no Cary Chow on any of the messages accept for
yours. Note that these messages are not modified this is what you sent me.

E - Suspension for (1+2+1+4+1.5)/5= 1.7 weeks (11.9 days)
VOTES
(1) I believe Atlanta is guilty of tampering (choice E). I believe that the

Atlanta team should have to forfeit 1-2 weeks worth of games. Also, Atlanta

should be suspended from signing any free agents until Sunday, December 5,

1999.

This is my opinion,

(2) (D +)Reviewing the evidence and recalling how precicly your system was to reject

a mail from myself concerning a wish to sign a player whose name I had not

spelled correctly I must conclude that your system are working correctly and

it therefor could not have been a mistake on your side which must meen that

the GM of Atlanta is guilty. But since he is quite new (at least as far as I

know) I think the case should be dropped and the GM let of with a warning.

PS. Like the GM of Chicago I think you are doing a great job with this league and do not deserve to have to deal with this kind of problem.

(3) I say D, from what I see this is a minor thing. I think you should drop the

case and give him or her and the rest of the league a warning. This is the

first time that something like this has been (from my experience here) done.

Anyways, it's just a game.

(4)(E) Atlanta is guilty of tampering Suspend them for one month, no signing or trading

(5)(B)I think this is stupid. As fas as I can see this is over a incorrectly

spelled name. Suspend him if you want, But dont force the team to resign over something like this.

(6)Atlanta is guilty of tampering (E) - suspend him (2 weeks)

(7)(b)

(8) (E.) Atlanta is guilty of tampering - suspend him for 1 week from signing free

agents.

(9) (E) My vote is to Suspend alanta's Gm and Comish decide the rest.

(10) i think atlanta is (e) guilty guilty of tampering - suspend him (should be

suspended for 2 weeks, no trading, signing players.)

(11) (B) Throw out the case, this is no more than a glitch - no action.

(12) b.. Throw out the case, this is no more than a glitch - no action

(13) (B) Throw out the case,no action.

(14) (E) Suspend for 1 week.
