TNR Does Marshall Canyon
Submitted by Bill on Fri, 06/18/2004 - 8:23amGood morning all. Last night I went with the Thursday Night Mountain Bike Group. We went on some old and new logging roads up Marshall Road and near the Marshall Ski Area. On the way down we hit some sweet single track. After the ride we hit a burger joint and celebrated our ride with some grease. I was warned that next weeks ride will be a dowser. We will be getting done in the dark. Sounds like fun.
Got to get some coffee ... Ok, there!
Today I must get my car serviced. I am nervous because I don't have a job. I might do most of it myself and get the other stuff like tire rotation done at the import place. Mostly though I plan to spend some time in the mountains hiking. The weather is awesome so I must bid adieu.
Marcy Kills Family
Submitted by Bill on Wed, 06/16/2004 - 5:11pmThis morning I hiked at Blue Mountain Area and went to Blue Point. Pretty cool but Marcy decided to kill a family of birds. Mom and all children. I could get to them as she chased them into some thick brush. That's Marcy's last hike anywhere there is any living things. I just also got back from the out to Lunch festival downtown. Everybody and there dog was there. I got my 3rd sunburn. Now I have to hunt down a VW dealer. Chow!

Out to Lunch is Missoula"s "picnic in the park" that happens every Wednesday in June, July and August in Caras Park from 11:00am to 1:30pm. Over 30 vendors provide food representing the wide variety of tastes of Missoula, and over 20 performers representing a variety of musical styles and coming from as far away as New York and LA.People that work downtown show up as well as residents. Shuttle busses are free and the sunshine is fantastic.

Blue Mountain Hike
Submitted by Bill on Sun, 06/06/2004 - 9:19pmI just got back from a awesome hike. I did Blue Mountain on the South Western side of Missoula. It took me 6 hours and 45 minutes. What a hike. On the way up it went from sunny to downpour rain. Then on a ridge it started to snow and it got so cold I almost turned back. Once off the ridge for the final accent I warmed back up again and when I reached the summit it was sun shining again. I got great views of the Mission Range and Lolo Peak. On the way down I just got off as a huge blizzard engulfed the mountain. I got great pictures of the storm. As I descended the wild flowers were so beautiful I couldn't believe it. Every color ... So awesome. As I came down I took three breaks in open fields of flowers and enjoyed the view in sunshine. Oh, what a day. I love it here. My home.
Sort of a Journey
Submitted by Bill on Mon, 05/31/2004 - 10:17amThe morning started early. I woke up with a headache. Not my sinuses but instead over training. How could I over train in the midst of a rest period. Well let me tell you. Yesterday I went on a sort of a journey. I went into the Rattlesnake Wilderness area. I took the main corridor which is the longest bike route to the edge of the wilderness (bikes stop there). 15 miles and all up hill. The scenery was unmistakably beautiful. As i approached the edge it started to rain and it didn't help that I had been riding in running water for the last 5 miles. The snow was present there and the weather cold. I got soaked and by the time i turned around I was shivering. I knew I had to make a 1 hour decent and get to warmer ground. I bombed the downhill and absolutely wasted myself and my rest period. I stopped by DelSoul for a fish burrito, went home, and crawled into bed.
This morning is beautiful as the sun rises. It looks like my trip to the criterium downtown today will be aboard my bike. As I look out Lolo is as usual in dark storm clouds. Blue Mountain is in direct sunlight and to the West scattered clouds none looking very threatening. Snow bowl and even Rattlesnake are clouded in and must be cold but thee sun will warm it up. Part of me wants to return to that place I was yesterday. Sentinel and Pattee Canyon Looks a little stormy but well see.
