Hiking Trip To Macomb, Dial, and Nippletop

Friday: Friday I worked late at Sikorsky. Well, I got off in time but hung around because of an event. Anyhow I had still to pack and by the time I was out on the road it was late. I found a small dirt road near Winsted CT and slept in my car.

Saturday: :: PICS :: The morning was damp and foggy so I snapped off a couple shots before I finished the Drive to Elk Lake Trail head. I was excited because the day was perfect for pictures. I didn't get on the trail until noon and it was starting to drizzle. I had trouble finding the entrance to the accent to Macomb. It is a tailless peak so I had to find that ?herd? path. I found it and ruminants of a micro burst

By the time I reached Macomb Slide I was drenched in cold rain. The Slide was lose and very unstable. I would touch a rock and it would shift and start to slide. I reached the top of Macomb and couldn't get warm again so I knew that the other three ( Hough, East Dix, and South Dix ) were out of the question. I reached the car after stumbling onto my face a couple of times and used the heated seats and a good nap to warm up. I drove to Plattsburgh to a friends house to recover.

Sunday: :: PICS :: This day promised to be the best day of the weekend so I decided to attack the Dial Nippletop Range. I started out about noon again and reached the two peaks in about 3 hours of hustling. I did stop at Bear Den Pass to get some great shots. In two more hours I was on my way near Indian Head when I ran out of water. I thought that this was ok since my hike was about over. I was wrong because after 6 hours from the start I reached Indian head and finally at Rainbow Falls by the 7-hour mark. I ended up running the Ausable Club Road to the car to beat the darkness of night. Total hike was 8.5 hours. Again I drove to Plattsburgh to my friend's house to recover.

Monday: Woke up to rain and when I reached the trail head of Rocky Ridge and Giant the mountains were socked in and cold. I waited to see if the rain would let up. It did not and so I decided to return home to CT.
