From the race director ~ "August 9th, 2008. The second running of the Butte 100 mountain bike race, in it's new incarnation, brings over 70 miles of single track and jeep trail, covering the Continental Divide trails in the immediate area." Race Questions and

Race Questions and Answers

Questions:

  1. I assume there will be water at the aid stations so are you mixing some bottles to leave at each of them?
  2. You probably won't wear a pack but just cache bottles?
  3. I think I will wear a hydration pack and leave a few bottles of  energy mix/bars at some stations.
  4. Do you have any experience with Hammer Gel Sustained Nutrition and how are you mixing it?
  5. How are you mixing the Perpetium?

Answers:

  1. From Bob, "Aid stations will have water, Heed and individual Hammer gel packs. Also Endurolites individual packs."
    1. Myself : I am going to mix a 4 hour bottle at the start.  Then at cp3, 5, and 8 I will stop and mix more 4 hr bottles. That is 1 4 hour bottle on bike,  one water bottle on bike, and 1 water bottle in back jersey middle pocket.  I will stop for 2 water bottles at all stations and drop my empties. I will also have a small bag of chips at each station just in case and take an entire bottle of Endurolites in my right Jersey pocket. I also plan to stash hammer gel caffeine at some of the later stops and might take them up on their offerings at each station.
  2. No need to cache.  Each aid station will have bins that you put your stuff that will be taken out. The bins will leave the start finish area around 7:10 AM. They will also be available at packet pick up which is Friday at the hotel. Remember packet pick up has to be done at the hotel, see the website and click packet pick up link.
  3. Theoretically all you need is your pack with water because they will have stuff at the stations.  Also your doing the 50 so it will be like a epic ride like in the Bitterroot.  Just take the same stuff you took then.
  4. I recommend Perpetium instead.  Perpetium is for efforts over three hours to a day long.  Perpetium and Sustained Energy is hard to administer.  They rot in 4 hours after mixing.  That is why I will stop every 4 hours and make up a 4 hour bottle.  All this information is on the Hammer site, just click on Usage instructions. This is NOT something you should do now.  It is recommended that you train with it first to fine tune the dosage.  I would recommend just forgetting about racing and pace yourself. Imagine being stuck out there with a stomach condition.  Ask the guy who was following me last year.
  5. I mix perpetium in a 4 hour bottle and each fill up I add water to DRY powder to make another 4 hours bottle.  Again see website.

Wow, that loop is amazing!

Wow, that loop is amazing! The area covered is beautiful. Holy shit, is that elevation correct? How many people have ever done that much in a day...a race?! I wish I could go and be one of your support crew. That ride you have in Missoula sure is a good prep for this. This is a Bill race. Peace
