Indian Head Trail
Hiking in New Hampshire - Located in N. Lincoln on Route 3
Total Distance : (from parking area to summit) 1.9 miles
Difficulty Level: Moderate
Climbed August 25, 1996
Weather conditions: Fair/lower 80"s
Follow Route 3 North out of Lincoln past the Clark Trading Post. Parking area is on the left just south of the Indian Head Resort (Trail Head Parking sign). The trail leaves the parking area and shortly crosses under an overpass, (I-93), then through a field and into the woods. From there the trail ascends moderately, (steeply at times), for approximately 1.6 miles. You will then need to climb over many rocks (not ledges) to join the Mt. Pemigewasset trail for the last 0.2 miles. The summit has excellent views of the surrounding area, including Cannon, Kinsman, Little Haystack, and Franconia Ridge. Well worth the effort!!
Monica and I did this one at the end of a camping weekend. I remember it was a moderate climb to a great lookout. The decent wasnt bad untill we came out on the highway and had to walk back to the car. It was not bad because we actually go to take a picture of Indian Head.
