This steep, technical trail carries from the heart of the Rattlesnake Valley into some heights through fields of wildflowers, while offering one of the more challenging short rides in the area. This trail begins at the trail head for Rattlesnake National Recreation Area but I rode my bike from town via the greenway. The trail heads up past the horse bridge on the right and over spring creek. The next left will take you up spring creek but don"t just follow this trail like I did (i ended up almost climbing to Stewart Peak). Instead before the trail really starts to climb take a right onto Wallman trail which isn"t marked. It is the only right, so don"t worry. This trail meanders through a meadow and once at the end starts to climb.
Then ... it starts to climb. I have never seen a trail go up so steeply and relentlessly. I had to walk my bike. I was hurting but when I reached a fork in the trail I was about to be rewarded. Take the right fork and descend. There is a real dangerous steep section, beware. I had too much speed when I hit this gem. Scared the {cencsored} out of me.
Who says there is no technical riding out here? the downhill was so fast and furious I had to stop and rest my hands twice. That is it, keep veering right and follow the main corridor back home. Sick uphill followed by a sick downhill.
