Main Corridor of Rattlesnake to Wilderness Boundry MTB Ride
This is a great out and back to do with a camera. A primitive track leaves the main entrance to snake along Rattlesnake Creek and head up a non-Wilderness corridor to within approximately three miles of a scenic Wilderness cluster of high alpine lakes. This trail begins at the main parking area for the wilderness area and runs along rattlesnake creek to Franklin Bridge. From there you climb the double track to the wilderness boundary where mountain bikes must stop by law. My excursion was jaw dropping. After the bridge the trail sweeps up and over a huge rock slide. The views are outstanding. A little more up the trail and you stand above a huge alpine wetland. I could sit there with a camera and get over a hundred shots. There was a cascading waterfall from a cliff above it probably fed by one of the high alpine lakes above.
It started to rain on my ride and I was high enough that there was snow on the ground and I was getting cold. I had to bomb the downhill and get to my car. This is probably one of the biggest down hill rides I have ever done. 15 miles of pure yahoo! Although mostly jeep trail, everyone likes speed.
