Marshall Canyon to Mid-Tower MTB Ride
Terrain Distance: 11.1 miles
Climbing Distance: 3,300 feet
The ride starts at the Route 200 and Marshall Canyon Road. This ride was a group ride and I was happy to join our group on a sunny but breezy day. The ride starts out climbing up the access road to the ski area. There is a heavily accessed logging road on the right a little under a mile up the road.
We squeezed through the access point and started to climb. Basically just climb and take the first major left turn. This takes you around the mountain up around the ski area. There is logging activity so watch out. Once around the mountain to the north there is a gully that we rode down.
I must say at this point that this ride is not recommended for someone that has not rode this route. You have to know where you are going or you"ll just wonder around and come to a couple dead ends.
Once down the gully we headed downstream and out onto another logging road. This road is the initial road that we climbed. Just before the point that we took a left we head onto the single track down the hill.
Once again don"t ride this unless someone in the group already has. This single track can easily land you onto some private property, which is not good for mountain biker land owner relations.
From there you scream down switchbacks and open fields. This is the most fun part and it is very cool. Go through three gates and join route 200 back to the cars. This ride is a great training run. Climbing to stress the cardiovascular and some technical switchbacks at the end to improve concentration.
I will do this loop again. It was great riding with the group. This particular night we meet for a burger afterwards. Very fun indeed.
