Dead Man's Downhill / Blue Mtn MTB
Terrain Distance (approx): 23.3 miles Climbing Distance: 6,301 feet
Highest Altitude: 6,422 feet
Trip Time: 3 hours
This ride I have been meaning to do for a long time. Actually I was intimidated by the downhill called Deadmans Downhill or Deadmans Ridge. I had hiked down it and found it to be challenging and it is. When I did it i only dabbed once to prevent a header. Otherwise I cleared it all.
To get to the top one must start at the bottom. I parked at the main parking area. I biked up the main trail and took a right on a trail in the meadow that took me over to the Blue Mountain Access road. Basically you ride this to the submit and then down Deadmans ridge.
The climb is long and expect to be climbing well over an hour straight. It is a gradual climb and I found myself ascending quickly at certain times. Other times it was a grunt. As you near the saddle of Blue Mountain you should take a left onto the final section that takes you to the fire tower. I missed it and ended up on the saddle. I kept on the road and was in denial that I missed the corner. I should of returned but I did not.
Finally I found a logging trail that seemed to go up the ridge of Blue Mountain and decided to climb up that, a slight detour. The road lead me to a dirt bike trail that follows the ridge line. The climbing got so severely steep that I was forced to walk but finally reaching the submit. The downhill was the treat although very technical and sketchy at times. Enjoy this, it is a hoot. When you reach the bottom and cross a creek on a bridge take a left and head up the trail. Go about 1/4 mile up and find a four way. Straight takes you up the canyon and a extreme right takes you the way you want to go. Meander and join a more substantial motor bike trail. Climb the switchbacks and reach a parking area. Go to the right of the area and follow one of the trails back to your car. There is a million ways to get back down and I have my favorite. I give this ride 5 stars ˜star ˜star ˜star ˜star ˜star
