I used three of the rides in my online forum to come up with Tour De Gulches. In the end I added the extreme climb of the Wallman trail to top off the ouch factor.
Start of doing the Sawmill gulch trail and by heading up to Sawmill Gulch on the single track that borders the access road to the Sawmill Gulch Trail head. Pass the trail head and head on out into the big open meadow.
Take a left turn going West and start climbing and going towards some woods at the far end. You will climb into several meadows until you reach a saddle with views West. The trail will start a decent.
Notice a well worn track going to the left and uphill. Take that is you are a good climber ... if not go down and back into the meadow. If you are climb until you reach the power lines and then descend back to Sawmill Gulch.
All in all the next part starts at where the sign indicates a new trail going up the gulch. This would be the second right from the trail head. Start up the trail and come to a swift turn right and onto a old road that climbs out of the end of the gulch. Once on top of the climb take a left as if you were riding to the lookout. don"t go far until you take a veer to the right to Curry Gulch and descend all the way to the Spring Gulch Trail.
Take a extreme left and climb up the Spring Gulch Trail. It is a good ways as you pass through some meadows. When you see a split in the trail veer right and cross the stream. Gear down as this little steeper sets up the rest of the climb.
You are now on the Wallman Trail. This trail meanders through a meadow and once at the end starts to climb. Then ... it starts to climb. Previously I had to walk my bike. Today though, I conquered the climb and nearly passed out at the top.
I would of passed out too if it were not for a beautiful woman on top looking for directions. Once I caught my breath we had a good discussion.
The rest is downhill. There is a real dangerous steep section, beware. I had too much speed when I hit this gem. Scared the {censored} out of me. Who says there is no technical riding out here? the downhill was so fast and furious I had to stop and rest my hands once. That is it, keep veering right and follow the main corridor back home. Sick uphill followed by a sick downhill.
I give this section 4 stars ˜star ˜star ˜star ˜star ... it would be five but I suffered too much on Wallman.
