Blue Point
I posted on the interweb social pipes “Either way, pick your poison. Take me tele skiing or have to come rescue me when I go too far. Up to you.” It did not work so I set forth to go on my own adventure. At12:30 I was headed to Woods Gulch where I was planning on going up Sheep Mountain.
I took off from the trailhead around 12:55 and by 1:30 was at 5,201 feet and just shy of 3 miles out. It was beautiful out but I soon realized that I would be extremely lucky to make it to Blue Point. I changed over from spikes on hiking boots to snowshoes and continued my quest.
Around 3:13 it became increasingly harder to plow the snow with snow shoes and was wishing I had my tele gear. I was at 6,096 feet and 5 miles out. I trudged on following large mountain lion tracks in the snow. An hour and 15 minutes later I broke out on Blue point at 7,064 feet (according to my GPS). It took longer then expected but the scenery was magical.
Coming back was an experience I will not forget. So beautiful. Hard to explain and thus for the massive photo posting in this blog. Spiritually I was with my friend Paul and dog Marcy most for the way down. About 5 miles away from the trailhead my iPhone froze solid and my twitter updates were over. I made it to the car around 7PM. What a great adventure.
