Remember Marcy Vision Quest
The name of this quest used to be called Bill's Vision Quest and then Mule Terra Vision Quest. It is now called "Remember Marcy Vision Quest" because she died yesterday (8/31/2008) and I feel the need to do something in the honor of a great animal, my friend who has climbed almost every high point in New England and New York. Even in Montana Marcy was first to the top and out in front on every epic journey. We all know that and when I am riding this, if I ride this, I want to have her with me. Tentatively I am planning to do something in her memory in the 1st edition of this ride.
To Get Credit
- To qualify for a checkpoint a photo is taken. Click on one of check points in the maps (see links above) to see a qualifying photo. Much appreciated if you can get yourself in them (for posting). Myself I am taking a small movie clip.
Pertinent Info
The date is last weekend in September. To date the loop is 153.16 miles and 22,648 feet of climbing. The quest is to do this ride in 24 hours but not necessary! Original start is noon and finishing at noon but not necessary. Starting early is up to you, just take a snapshot of the starting area.
I will be able to produce results/stats with the use of a camera (time stamp, proof of obtaining a checkpoint). [SIGN UP] I am also in need of people to ride the legs with me so sign up for a ride or an aid station.
What You May Need
- Be familiar with the routes. You are on your own for navigation. My Google map is very accurate. I would recommend getting topo quads and marking it out for your journey. I also recommend pre riding these legs in the day time. See the data sheets for my scheduled pre rides.
- To stash your own drops or get someone to handle your awesomeness at some of the recommended aid areas (see map).
- A photo taking device (pref. w/ SD card) with a flash (for night photos).
- A SD card, to be given back after download.
Aid Stations
I posted aid station locations on the map and it is up to each participant in handling there own aid. I am accepting volunteers for my aid stops. The map shows the best places for aid. Obviously if your riding a leg with me there will be someone at my aid stops. Anything is fine, I just don't want to give the impression that volunteers will be sitting at a aid station all day/night and thus the reason for a dispatcher and time frames in the data sheets. If we have a dispatcher then you are free to use that avenue of communication to get aid. I recommend a cell phone!
Notes
- The Sunrise is 7:26 am and Sunset at 7:29 PM around Sept 27-28. I am thinking it will be light until 8:00.
- We will have 13 hours of daylight and 11 hours of darkness [gaisma].
- The official map tiny URL is http://tinyurl.com/vquest.
- Be prepared for extreme cold at night.
- You will need a decent night lighting system for the night legs. A little lamp for commuting will not work in the woods far from civ!
